Attention all Junior High Competitors

If you are thinking of attending the National finals in Gallup this summer please be advised that due to the incidence of Equine Piroplasmosis there are currently additional import requirements placed on Canadian horses entering the state of New Mexico and returning to

Canada

. Please remember that these requirements can change and check with you Federal Vet to make sure you get all the necessary paperwork in order.

1) Import permit issued by CFIA
2) inspected by a vet at least 15 days prior to export
3) have not been on premises where Piro has occurred during 60 days prior to export
4) test negative to Equine Piroplasmosis using cELISA test during the 15 days prior to export

The approximate additional costs are as follows:

Import paper $35.00
Border inspection $25.00
New Mexico vet and test fee $65.00

The New Mexico state vet will be working with the NHSRA is getting all the inspections and vet work done.
The import permit is attained from CFIA and the quote is it could take up to 10 days to get as this needs to come from Calgary .

Please check with CFIA as these restrictions can change at any time
